Who We Are
My Story
I’m a Brooklyn dad living in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood with my wife and two kids. As a Data Scientist, I felt the need to create, to build with my hands. I had always enjoyed diy projects but then I took several woodworking classes and was enthralled. As my skills grew, I built out my home workshop.
My woodworking is motivated by a desire to add pleasure to life through meeting functional needs with beauty and environmentally friendly practices. Living in oddly shaped spaces in Brooklyn I was faced with the need for furniture with very specific dimensions. I made a table for an outdoor deck. I made custom planters for our small outdoor garden. I made a built-in mudroom bench for our basement entrance. I made a large shoe rack to match our other living room furniture.
I now launch Phil’s Craft to share my enthusiasm for building with you. If you need something for a specific space I can build it for you economically, with beauty and durability.
I hope you enjoy your visit!
Working Together
I enjoy sharing my passion with others. This had led me to teaching woodworking to both kids and adults. Please ask about working with me to build your furniture or perhaps building your own design. Unfortunately, due to the current Covid-19 crisis classes are on pause.
I hope to return to having classes in the future, but for now we’re offering our at home building kits.
Core Principles
- Think globally. I strive to use environmentally friendls materials, reclaimed wood and locally sourced products.
-
Beauty is expressed through design and construction. It enhances the pleasure of life.
-
Form follows function. The primary objective of any design, every design element, should be to meet a need.
